What should I do if I smell gas in my home?

If you smell gas or suspect a leak, you should immediately open doors and windows to ventilate the area, turn off the gas supply at the meter (if safe to do so), avoid using any electrical switches, naked flames, or phones inside the property, leave the property, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. Once the emergency has been handled, contact us during working hours for any follow-up repair work.

Wherever possible we provide a fixed, written quote before work begins, covering installations, servicing and most plumbing jobs, so there are no surprises on the day. This is confirmed after a free survey or an honest phone conversation about the job.

What does a magnetic filter do?

A magnetic filter sits on the pipework near your boiler and continuously traps metallic sludge and debris, protecting the boiler heat exchanger from damage. Most manufacturers now recommend or require one to keep the warranty valid, which makes it a cheap, worthwhile addition.

No. A boiler service covers the boiler itself, while a central heating check looks at radiators, valves, pipework and the existing filter across the whole system. We can assess both together so nothing in the system gets missed.

This usually means sludge or debris has settled at the bottom of the radiator, restricting water flow. A powerflush is typically the right fix rather than repeatedly bleeding it, which will not clear a sludge build-up.

Yes. Spencer Jordan Plumbing and Heating is Gas Safe registered, Register No. 640113, which you can verify directly on the Gas Safe Register. We only carry out central heating and gas work within that registration.
